Business Communications in Germany and Portugal

This program takes students to Germany and Portugal, two very different destinations, to learn about their very different business cultures. ESA connects the students and faculty  with local companies and professionals through visits to the major industries of their regions with presenations from diverse company representatives. Outside of the classroom, students engage with locals for their business communications assignements and attend cultural visits to important sites to support their studies and understanding of the cultures.

Week 1

Berlin

Welcome reception and orientation

Classroom time

Guest lecture: Intro to German language and culture

Historical walking tour

Firm visit 1: Visit the headquarters of a leading motoring brand and meet a senior team member of their marketing department

German History Museum

Firm visit 2: Food industry company HQ

Week 2

Porto - Aveiro - Lisbon

Porto. Welcome reception and orientation

Classroom time

Guest lecture: Intro to Portuguese language and culture

Welcome meal

Porto walking tour

Firm visit 3: Porto wine cellar. Meet with one of their teams representative to learn about their production chain, business culture. Wine tasting at the end.

Firm visit 4: Meet a representative of Portugal’s biggest cork production company, and visit the cork trees field and facilities.

Aveiro. Firm visit 5: Visit the country’s most important and traditional ceramics factory, and learn about their communications and marketing techniques

Discover Aveiro and Costa Nova

Firm visit 6: Get to meet part of the team of a furniture producer and visit their logistic center

Week 3

Lisbon

Welcome meal

Alfama and Barrio Alto walking tour

Firm visit 7: Meet and talk with a representative of the marketing team of Portugal’s biggest bank

Day trip: Sintra

Walking tour

Pena Palace

National Palace of Sintra

Firm visit 8: Visit the country’s most international civil engineering company’s headquarters, meet part of their team, and get to see one of their working sites

Farewell dinner on the riverside
